Arrest in Boutilier murder
Funeral held last Friday
BANGOR — Police arrested 34-year-old Colin Koehler at his Bangor apartment last Tuesday on charges of allegedly stabbing and killing former Old Town resident Holly Boutilier. The 19–year-old’s body was found by an unidentified transient man near a makeshift shack near the Penobscot River.
Koehler apparently gave no reason in court documents for the alleged killing and made his first appearance before a judge last Thursday. He will undergo a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation.
Boutilier’s family held her funeral at the Birmingham Funeral Home in Old Town last Thursday which was followed by a burial service Friday at Hodgdon Cemetery.
Trusted employee charged with felony theft
HOULTON — Lacey Malone, a manager at the Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Houlton, posted bail at the police station after being charged in the alleged felony theft of at least $1,000 in store deposits that never made it to the bank. The KFC owners, based in Presque Isle, alerted police about the missing money.
Malone’s June 10 arrest only recently came to light, according to Houlton Police Detective Carolyn Crandall, after word got out on the street. Crandall said the investigation is ongoing into nearly $27,000 in missing deposits and $1,700 in other missing money, not part of the bank deposits.
Malone, Crandall confirmed, is just one of at least four other suspects who may or may not be KFC employees. Additional police interviews in the case were held as recently as Monday, according to Crandall.
‘Car shopping’ teens arrested
Police say report suspicious activity
HOULTON — Police apprehended two male teenagers last Tuesday in the pre-dawn hours after an alert resident notified them that the pair were in her vehicle, got out and then walked along South St. toward Columbia St.
A quick response by Houlton Police Department officers Jared Sylvia, Randall Wilson and Sgt. Eric Crouse with assistance from Border Patrol Officer Radatz resulted in the location and arrest of the two suspects who matched the resident’s description.
A 16-year-old juvenile and 19-year-old Ryan Parks of Danforth told police they were “car shopping” — slang for committing car burglaries. They had split up to target older vehicles without car alarms in search of money and cigarettes.
Police arrested Parks for alleged burglary of a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia. The juvenile was released to the custody of his parents.
These arrests follow other recent arrests for similar alleged criminal activity. Houlton Police Lt. Dan Pelletier suggests that “all residents lock doors to their cars and homes and report any suspicious activity to the police department.”
Pelletier adds that residents do not have to give their name when reporting a crime or suspicious activity.
