Houlton Rifle and Pistol Club meeting date changed
Due to the Labor Day weekend, the monthly meeting of the Houlton Rifle and Pistol Club will be held on Sept. 13, at the range adjacent to Houlton International Airport. The meeting will start at 7 p.m., with recreational target shooting to follow. All members are encouraged to attend.
Fall Basketball League to start
The MBNation, formerly Maine Hoops, is announcing its 14th annual Fall Basketball League. Last year, the League consisted of more than 70 teams from all over the state and New Hampshire. The League runs competitive divisions and a championship format.
The four weeks of regular season play begins the weekend of Oct. 3 and 4, with playoffs on the weekend of Nov. 1. Teams are guaranteed nine games, with most games being played on Sunday.
The divisions include boys and girls grades 7-8; boys grades 9-10; boys varsity, girls varsity and girls junior varsity.
Teams play two same-day games each weekend in the Portland/Saco area.

Hunter Safety hands-on program to begin in September
A Hands-On Hunter Safety program begins September 13 through September 27.
Classes will be held from 1-4 p.m. on the following Sunday afternoons, Sept. 13, Sept. 20 and Sept. 27 at the Island Falls Fish and Game Club clubhouse at the Mattawamkeag Lake/Boat landing.
The Island Falls Fish and Game Club and the Island Falls Free Wheelers – ATV club are sponsoring the class.
Instructor will be Peter Blood and the class is limited to 24 students. Students ages 10-14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The class is free. Preregistration is mandatory. Door prises will be given including Hal Blood’s DVD —”Hunting Whitetails in Maine.”
