Sometimes a name says it all. That’s the case with Empowering Life. As a not-for-profit counseling service, it is committed to empowering and helping individuals, couples and families work toward significant, positive changes in their life circumstances.
With nearly a decade of counseling experience, owner and counselor Lois Flewelling says she is passionate about seeing the positive changes people can make in their lives. “Our desire is to provide genuine, caring client-centered professional services. We specialize in Christian counseling, inner healing and leadership training.”
Flewelling is a licensed clinical professional counselor certified through the American Association of Christian Counselors with a master of arts degree from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Fees covering therapeutic counseling services for issues such as depression, anxiety or marital situations, among others, are on a sliding scale and often covered by insurance.
In addition to the therapeutic counseling services, there is also a ministerial component for personal growth through small groups and conferences. Flewelling and the staff can provide Bible-based therapy upon request. However she emphasizes: “We do not impose our values on anyone and we honor and respect the personal beliefs of others.”
Also under the Empowering Life umbrella is an outreach program — Friends of Aroostook — to reach neighbors in need. Through that outreach, real everyday physical needs of area residents are met through the generous donations of volunteers, including their time.
Operation Wood Heat processes and delivers firewood donated by several local contractors to any family or individual in need at no charge. Friends of Aroostook also provides fresh produce directly to residents, area food pantries and the Meals-on-Wheels program. The expanding services of all programs of Empowering Life are confidential.
