Atoms win skills competition at PI hockey tournament

    PRESQUE ISLE – The Presque Isle Atoms youth hockey team came out on top during the National Hockey League style skills competition during the Atom’s Hockey Tournament held at the Forum on February 22, 23 and 24.     Thirty players participated in seven skills events including accuracy shooting, racing, hardest shot, speed shooting, top goaltender, shootout and puck-handling relay.
    Team points were awarded for the top three finishers in each event. Presque Isle’s Alex Michaud was first in the accuracy shooting and Colin McKay also claimed first in the hardest shot event.
    Presque Isle hosted teams from New Brunswick and Penobscot Valley during the tournament. Seven teams in total participated. The Grand Falls Junior Cats took home the tournament championship with a 6-2 win over St. Leonard.
    The Presque Isle Atoms finished the tournament with a 1-1-1 record and did not qualify for the tournament playoffs.
