HOULTON — Residents who drop off garbage and trash at the Pine Tree Waste transfer station are facing new policies starting May 1, according to Dean Lawrence, the facility’s operations manager.
The revised procedures mean that customers who used to have their bags weighed on scales inside “will now be required to buy colored bags we have here and they will be pre-paid.”
The bags, said Lawrence, are 25-pound bags. At presstime, Lawrence said he expected the cost to be $2.73 or less which includes disposal and trucking to the landfill.
“If customers want to drive through and use the truck scales, it’s going to stay the same,” he said. What will change, “is service for people who bring in one or two bags and have the attendant weigh them.” Curbside service remains unchanged.
