HOULTON — Officials with Greater Houlton Christian Academy (GHCA) have announced that the Commission on Independent Schools of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) have both accepted GHCA’s two-year interim evaluation report.
“We couldn’t be more pleased,” explained John Bishop, Head of School. “Our staff has worked very hard to address their recommendations and it is rewarding to see their recognition of our work. The recommendations are based on best practices for curriculum excellence and professional development.”
The ACSI letter states, in part, “In spite of financial and enrollment pressures, Greater Houlton Christian Academy has made significant progress in addressing all major recommendations from the 2009 accreditation process. In particular, the revision of the strategic plan is both comprehensive and achievable in a five-year time frame.”
In 2010, GHCA became accredited for a 10-year term by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), making it only the second Christian school in the state to become accredited. NEASC is the nation’s oldest accrediting association and is the organization that accredits public and private schools in the New England area. GHCA received ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) accreditation at the same time, making the school dual-accredited. In addition, GHCA gained full “State Approved” status by the Maine Department of Education.
