The 14th annual North Country Cruisers Show ‘n Shine event will take place this weekend, rain or shine, at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum in Littleton.
The Show ‘n Shine will be held Saturday and Sunday with registration time from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday.
Last year, the weather was ideal and 200 vehicles registered for the show, along with the North Country Cruisers members’ classics and the vintage tractor collection at the museum. With that boost, there were at least 250 units displayed on the museum grounds.
“We hope to exceed that if the weather falls right,” said Tim McAtee, president of the North Country Cruisers. “We put on the show at no charge to the public. And, we would like to thank all of our sponsors who help cover the cost to bring others to the area.”
It may not be easy to reel in the people for their initial time, but once they come, they are hooked, added McAtee.
This year, a new class has been added to the already extensive list, with Camaros making their own category.
“They are going to be judged in their own class like the Mustangs and Corvettes have been the last few years,” said McAtee. “We dropped the tractor-trailer special class and the few we had easily can go into the special interest group.”
Always offered as an added class is the “Kid’s Stuff.”
“This is for anything kids want to bring up customized, modified or whatever; be it a lawn mower, pedal car, soap box derby car,” explained McAtee. “It is anything they have modeled that is custom.”
The show isn’t only for the restored vintage cars, as McAtee noted that the “Under Construction” Class is to showcase a classic that is being worked on.
“The Four-door Cruiser class is the old, unrestored, daily driving car,” McAtee added. “It may be stuff people may not think would be in a car show. It doesn’t have to be polished up or shiny. That is what the class is for.”
The weekend activities will start off with a Cruise Night — not associated with the North Country Cruisers — at Tim Hortons.
Bon fires will be held on Friday and Saturday nights, as well. Friday at Kenny Smith’s and Saturday at Raymond Carmichael’s residence.
“Come up and socialize,” said McAtee. “Bring up some hot dogs or make smores.”
During the show, new kids games will be introduced.
“We bought a new pedal car last year,” said McAtee. “Kids are going to have their own version of the blind man driving contest.”
It will be interesting to see which parent or sibling the child driving listens to and trusts as they maneuver the course.
“As always, there will be other games,” said McAtee such as the Teeter-Totter and depending on weather conditions there may be a parking contest.
“There will be lots of food, cars, music and fun,” he added.
Throughout the weekend, door prizes will be awarded and trophies will be presented in 22 classes, along with Special Awards. T-shirts — computer generated photo of Hogan Tire’s Jody Anderson with the North Country Cruisers cars in the foreground — will be also be available.
“A big thank you to Jody for all the years of his support for the club and the sport in general,” said McAtee.
