Wildcat squads remain in first

    The Presque Isle varsity soccer teams strengthened their hold on the No. 1 positions in the Eastern Maine Class B soccer standings with more victories last week.

    The Wildcat boys opened with a 5-0 win at Central of East Corinth last Wednesday, and then bested John Bapst Saturday, 4-1,  before getting past Old Town  Monday, 3-1.
    The three wins have coach Scott Young’s team at 10-0-1 and well in front of the pack in the division.
    Russ Mortland’s hat trick lifted PI past Central. Freshman Isaac Lajoie also had a goal along with Warren Zubrick. Dillon Kingsbury had the shutout in goal
    On Saturday, Mortland, Lajoie and Zubrick again did all the goal scoring against Bapst. Mortland had two of the goals, while Lajoie and Zubrick notched one each.
    In Monday’s home match, Eric Morris and Mortland both scored in the first four minutes of play, while Josh Allen added an insurance tally midway through the half as PI remained unbeaten.
    The Presque Isle girls are also in first place with their 9-1 record. They garnered wins over Central (9-0) and John Bapst (5-0).
    Chelsea Nickerson and Kayla Legassie both netted hat tricks in the thrashing of Central last Tuesday. Jenna Stephenson scored twice and Brittany Bearden had the other goal for PI.
    Nickerson and Legassie again led the offense in the victory over John Bapst. Both players had two goals each, while Kayla Richards also netted a goal.
    Kellsey Park picked up the shutout wins in goal in both contests.
    The high school soccer season reconvenes for all  the Aroostook  County schools later this week and next week as the harvest recess comes to a close.
    Fort Fairfield and Limestone met at LCS last night, while Fort hosts Madawaska Thursday and Ashland travels to Van Buren Friday. Washburn and Central Aroostook will also be back on the field next week.
