The Houlton/Hodgdon Adult and Community Education program is offering two series aimed at providing local residents with opportunities to expand their learning, according to Director Joe Fagnant.
New Books, New Readers program, aimed at adult learners, is sponsored by the Maine Humanities Council was originally scheduled for Oct. 5, but will start Wednesday, Oct. 19.
The class times will be 10:30am-12:00pm and meet at the Houlton Higher Education Center on 10/19, 11/2, 11/16 and 11/30. This program is to encourage new readers to get involved in a “book club for everyone” by using children’s books to spark open discussions and increase literacy interests.
In addition, Beltone from Presque Isle has teamed up with Houlton/Hodgdon Adult and Community Education to bring a “Lunch and Learn” seminar about hearing loss.
This seminar will take place on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Houlton Higher Education Center.
A free lunch will take place after the seminar. Guests need to register by calling 521-3100 ext 5 or stopping by the adult education office at the Higher Education Center. Topics covered will be hearing loss and information about new hearing aid advancements. Space is limited, so register early.
