• County Physical Therapy LLC (CPT) Founder and President Mark Rossignol announced that Paul Marquis, PT has been promoted to vice president of clinical operations. • June Gallant, Caribou’s TD Banknorth branch manager, presented Shirley Fortin of the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen with a check for just under $600. The money was raised in a silent auction at the bank recently and will go toward keeping the soup kitchen running.
• Bill Flagg, director of community relations and development at Cary Medical Center has received the annual Silver Spike Award from the Maine Benzodiazepine Study Group. The award was presented in honor of Flagg’s efforts in working with the group to improve prescribing guidelines and classification of medications known as benzodiazepines.
• Ann Gahagan, RN, FNP with Pines Health Services in Caribou was awarded the 2006 “Hanley Leadership Award,” in honor of her 35-year crusade to provide comprehensive patient centered care for people with diabetes. Presenting the award were: former U.S. Sen. George J. Mitchell and Maria Hanley, wife of the late Daniel F. Hanley, M.D.
• Professional Home Nursing was recognized as one of the Top 500 agencies out of 8,900 home health providers in the United States.
• Cozy Corner II in Fort Fairfield held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Jan. 19 at their new location. Officials believe the opening of a furniture store in the heart of the community will be a much needed shot in the town’s economic arm.
• Mary Wilcox, Heidi O’Clair-Thompson, Allison Reed, Nancy Nichols, Lezlie Willette and Jeanine Morneault, all self-employed lia sophia sales advisors, raised $1,000 to go to the Sister Mary O’Donnell Homeless Shelter in Presque Isle.
• S.W. Collins designers awarded Sandy Sargent of Woodland and her family with a $10,000 kitchen upgrade, as winner of the annual Ugly Kitchen Contest.
• The Caribou Business and Professional Women’s Club hosted a Monte Carlo Night at the American Legion Post 15 on Sweden Street in Caribou.
• Katahdin Trust Company donated over 20 computer monitors to Washburn District High School.
• Channel X Radio celebrated their 20th year in business with a pizza party compliments of Katahdin Trust Company. The bank also presented a framed print to commemorate the station’s milestone.
• The Caribou Utilities District received the 2006 Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Award for Sustainable Public Health Protection. A loan for $1,840,000 was awarded to replace the surface water treatment facility on the Aroostook River.
• Ryan Genz, a 1993 graduate of Caribou High School invented a computerized shirt that was named by Time magazine as one of the top inventions of 2006.
• Cary Medical Center was once again named a “Preferred Hospital” by the State Employee Health Commission, one of 23 hospitals in the state to receive that designation.
• Katahdin Trust Co. donated proceeds of the Teddy Bear’s for Valentine’s Day project to the American Red Cross.
• Sisters Mary Pelkey and Olive Bouchard opened MemoryLand Treasures on Bennett Drive in Caribou to provide scrapbookers with all of their needs.
• Northeast Publishing donated a computer to the Caribou Pet Rescue, which will be used by the shelter to create personalized Create-A-Books for children. The books will be on sale with funds going toward aiding homeless animals in Aroostook County.
• Members of the Fort Fairfield community voted, and awarded McGillan, Inc. as the business of the year. Ballot boxes were placed throughout the stores in town, giving residents the opportunity to vote.
• Loring Job Corps, acquired a new Center Director in the person of Jim Gagnon. Gagnon, a Van Buren native attended the Penobscot Job Corps after high school. After graduating he received a position as resident advisor at a Job Corps center. From there he has worked his way up within the Job Corps system.
• The Caribou Chamber of Commerce and Industry held its annual dinner at the VFW Hall in Caribou awarding the 2006 Business of the Year award. The award was given to two local entities: the Defense Financing and Accounting Service of the Loring Commerce Center and Rosenburg Real Estate, owner of the Skyway Plaza.
• After a lengthy process, the Town of Limestone approved a Tax Increment Financing package for Loring BioEnergy to aid the power plant by lowering start up costs.
• McCain Foods USA, a leader in the frozen food market and a leading employer in northern Maine, as well as a major force in the economy of Aroostook, stepped up as a lead gift contributor to NMCC’s Campaign for the County’s College, pledging $25,000.
• Kristie Moir was selected as the Caribou Business and Professional Women’s Club Young Careerist for 2007. Moir represented the Caribou BPW at the statewide speech competition.
• The Loring Development Authority has proposed a lease agreement with the Department of Administration and Finance, which will lease the Maine Military Authority buildings and sublease to MMA. This agreement was mandated by the state.
• Mary Crowley of Caribou reached the 10-year mark with her self owned CruiseOne franchise, providing vacation planning help to Aroostook County residents.
• David King of Limestone was honored with the Paul Harris Fellowship by the Limestone Rotary Club and made an honorary Rotarian at the annual senior citizens supper at Loring Job Corps.
• Soderberg Construction of Caribou loaned an excavator to students of the Caribou Technology Center, who used the machine to demolish a building, on the site of the future home of the Caribou Scout Building.
• Precision Lawn Services owned and operated by Bryan Anderson and James Mattila, held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Caribou Chamber of Commerce and Industry following the close of their first year in business.
• Alphie’s Barber Shop moved to a new location with a new owner, Lisa Kirouac of Bristol, Conn. Kirouac decided to keep the name out of respect for the well-known Caribou resident Alphie Cyr, deceased.
• North End Landscaping and Stone Supply of Caribou recently held an open house, showing homeowners some of the options they offer.
• KeyBank NA recently pledged $25,000 to NMCC’s Campaign for the Community College.
• County Physical Therapy, LLC’s Caribou office added a new exercise room, to help meet clients overall needs.
• Second Hand Rose of Herschell St. in Caribou celebrated 20 years in business.
• Craig Staples, assistant vice president and commercial services officer at the Presque Isle and Caribou offices of Katahdin Trust Co. was named as the 2007 America’s Promise Volunteer.
• The Caribou Rotary Club hosted a Group Study Exchange team from Fiji.

• Nancy Chandler was awarded with the Philip C. Hastings Award by Gov. John E. Baldacci, for her work in advancing the goals of Efficiency Maine.

• The 86th annual Maine Business and Professional Women State Convention was held at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, on June 10.
