NEW SWEDEN – Braving the cold temperatures Thursday, Feb. 28, Aroostook middle school athletes took to the ski trails in the New Sweden middle school classic race.

Both Caribou and Presque Isle made top-three showings in the boys’ 3.1 km race. Caribou’s Caleb Chapman crossed first in 14:42, and Jesse Rochester finished for PI in third at 15:37.
Caribou’s Katie Plourde put in the fastest time in the girls’ race at 16:11, followed by Fort Fairfield’s Melissa McKenney (17:11) and Union 122 athlete Kendra Stephens (17:16).

Presque Isle Blue skied to first place as a team in the boys’ race, followed by Madawaska, Caribou, Union 122, Presque Isle White, Ashland and Fort Fairfield.
The Caribou girls’ had the top team score followed by Fort Fairfield, Union 122, Presque Isle White, Presque Isle Blue and Madawaska.
