Members the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 9389 in Caribou, recently honored one of their longtime members, Irene Allen during an evening affair held at the Post Home.

Irene Allen, seated at right, was recently honored by fellow VFW Post 9389 Ladies Auxiliary members ,friends and family members for her longtime dedication to the auxiliary. Seated next to Allen is Juanita Lemire and in back are Carol Adams and Josephine Bell.
Allen, a 61-year member of the VFW Auxiliary 9389, served as president of the group from 1966-68 and was the Americanism chairperson for a number of years. Her endless charitable work over the years includes having made afghans for every bed at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou and she continues to make mittens and hats for needy area children.
The honoree was presented with a dozen red roses from the auxiliary, a bouquet from children of the local schools where she, as Americanism chairperson, had presented them all with flags; she also received a card signed by everyone present.
Approximately 40 family members, friends, VFW and auxiliary members attended the dinner event.
VFW Auxiliary Treasurer Jeanette Hanson made a cake in honor of Allen.
