Maine’s premier dog sled race – the Can-Am Crown with 90 mushers and 750 sled dogs – will be a featured broadcast on Time Warner Cable Television stations across Maine tonight.     The one-hour special presentation will follow the events of the 2008 Can-Am Crown that took place last March from the border town of Fort Kent.
The video features all three versions of the race: the 30-mile race, 60-mile race and the Can-am Crown 250. The long race, considered one of the most challenging competitions in the world of professional sled dog racing, is a grueling 250-mile chase through wild hills and remote river valleys. It has gained a reputation as the East’s toughest sled dog race, and it has long held status as a qualifier for the Iditarod and Yukon Quest.
The documentary focuses on two mushers as they train for and compete in the Can-Am Crown 250. The efforts of these racers provide a rare look into the harsh, isolated, yet thrilling world of long-distance sled dog racing.
The documentary will air at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28.
In central Maine and Aroostook County, it will be seen on Time Warner Channel 9, in the Bangor region on Time Warner Channel 12 and in southern Maine on Time Warner Channel 22.
The documentary was produced by the Ursus Media Group, headquartered in Waterville.
