Frank McElwain, superintendent of Eastern Aroostook RSU 39, informed board members at a recent meeting that he had received notice of recognition from officials with the Maine Immunization Program regarding services provided by the RSU school nurses and staff regarding outstanding performance in preventing influenza in local school children and the community. The letter, signed by the Director of Maine Immunization program. Read in part: “Due to your impressive collaborative efforts providing the noval H1N1 influenza vaccine and the seasonal influenza vaccine to school children through school influenza vaccine clinics in the 2009-10influenza season, the Maine Immunization program would like to recognize your excellence in protecting school children and the local communities from influenza with a shared director’s Award.”
The RSU 39 shares this award with the Flu Shoot Program at Cary Medical Center, Pines Health Services and the Caribou Fire and Ambulance department.
Formal presentations of these awards will take place in Augusta on March 31.
