Burns sentenced

    According to officials with the District Attorney’s office in Caribou, Timothy Burns, 43, of Limestone was sentenced March 19, in Superior Court by Justice E. Allen Hunter, for a felony theft which occurred in April, 2007. A jury convicted Burns after his trial on March 8.     Burns was convicted of obtaining an income tax refund check which did not belong to him which he had a friend cash for him. Members of the Caribou Police Department conducted the investigation.
    Burns was sentenced to serve 18 months in prison, followed by two years’ of probation and was ordered to pay restitution of $5,680.25.
    The state of Maine was represented at the March 8 trial and the March 19 proceedings by Assistant District Attorney John Pluto.
    Burns was represented by Attorney Jeff Pickering of Houlton.
