Grade 7 (House 2)
Presque Isle Middle School
Mantle Lake is my favorite park. Mantle Lake offers many things. It offers fishing for young children and a tennis court. It has two fun play sets. It also has trails to go walking, a grassy field, plus picnic tables and a deck. It’s a wonderful place to go, and it’s a lot of fun. I have a lot of memories of Mantle Lake, and I can’t wait for the next time I go with my family or friends.
The next time I go will be in June with my Reading Buddy. Our seventh grade class reads to the first graders from Pine Street Elementary School. Once a month, the first graders come to our school, and we pair up and read picture books in the auditorium. We start in October when we meet our Reading Buddies. In December we exchanged Christmas cards and sang carols that they knew. We also read to them. In February we gave each other Valentine cards and read. At the end of the school year, we will meet our first grade Reading Buddies at Mantle Lake for a picnic, games, and stories.
Most of my memories of Mantle Lake are in summer time. I remember walking and riding my bike to Mantle Lake with my dad. One time I found out that my friend Mallory lived close to Mantle Lake. I saw her outside her house, and I got to meet her family and her pets. Often I got to play with her at Mantle Lake. Later on she moved away, but I have memories of our adventures at Mantle Lake.
Another memory I have of Mantle Lake is walking through the trails. It was always an adventure when we went on a new trail. We went around Mantle Lake, and another time we went in a circle. Sometimes my dad and I would hear animals, such as woodpeckers. Often a squirrel or a chipmunk would run by. One time I even saw a cat there.
I also remember feeding the ducks. I tried to get them to come to me. I saw baby ducks that were so cute, and their mom was with them. As I got closer to them they swam away. I also remember searching for frogs. I usually could not find any but I did find tadpoles.
Another thing I did at Mantle Lake was play in the field. My family and I had picnics at the picnic tables. We had Chinese food, and it was very good. That does not sound like a picnic but it was. One thing I remember is playing on the play sets. My dad would be the “sea monster,” and my brothers and I would runaround on top. My dad would go on the play set and chase us. It was so much fun. These are some of my memories at Mantle Lake in the summer.
One winter memory I have is of walking across the ice. I was horrified, but on the way back I was fine.
Those are my favorite memories of Mantle Lake Park. Overall I love Mantle Lake, and I can’t wait to go with my Reading Buddy. I’m so glad Mantle Lake is in Presque Isle.
