The staff at the Maine Veterans Home in Caribou recently announced that Robert Allen has been named the MVH’s Veteran of the Month for November.

Born on June 28, 1933, in Bridgewater, where he also grew up and attended school. On Aug. 17, 1950, Mr. Allen enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving four years as a teletype operator in Frankfort, Germany.

During his military service, Allen received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Germany Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force on Aug. 16, 1954, at the rank of Airman 1st Class.

Following his military service the veteran would go on to live in Easton and Connor Township as well as residing in Massachusetts. He worked as a television and radio repair technician and owned his own business, Bob’s TV Repair.  He also worked as an electrician at Fairfield Energy and at Potato Service.

Mr. Allen became a resident at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou in June, 2010 after living in Connor Township. While at the Maine Veterans’ Home, he enjoys playing cribbage, reading the paper, watching sports (especially the Red Sox), and taking walks.  An avid hunter and fisherman, he currently enjoys visits to area weighing stations to see the local hunters and watch the moose and deer being weighed. The veteran also takes part in MVH fishing trips. He is also visited regularly by his four children and nine grandchildren, who take him on various outings in the community.

The Maine Veterans’ Home staff in Caribou is proud of Mr. Allen’s service and is please to provide care for one of Maine’s heroes.
