Annual youth fishing derby scheduled for Saturday

In preparation for the Presque Isle Elks “Hooked on Fishing, Not Drugs” youth fishing derby, the Enfield hatchery of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, on Thursday, June 1 will stock Mantle Lake in Presque Isle with 500 8- to 11-inch long trout.

Lions Club Auction is 10 days away

The Mapleton Lions Club Auction is scheduled for June 10 at the Mapleton Lions Hall starting at 6:30 p.m. The Club’s members are soliciting nearly 300 items ranging from oil change gift certificates to black sunflower bird seed to a squirrel proof bird feeder and several other services that will be auctioned to provide financial support of the Mapleton Lions Club charities.

On Thursday, May 18 Cary Medical Center hosted the virtual conference “Turning the Tide on Lung Cancer” highlighting the importance of low dose CT lung cancer screening. Two keynote speakers, Dr. Kim-Lori Sandler and Dr. Michael Gieske, addressed their respective work and research as it relates to lung cancer screening.

Agency on Aging gallery features Mapleton artist’s work in June

Aroostook Agency on Aging will exhibit the work of Mapleton artist Susanne Hay in June as part of the Artists for Aging initiative. Hay will present a large selection of her works, as well as greeting cards, keychains and candles, during an opening reception from 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 2.
