Robert L. Symonds associated with R.W. Wight & Son — Robert L. Symonds of Lisbon joined the staff of R.W. Wight & Son, funeral directors, Roland W. Wight announced. Mr. Symonds graduated with honors in 1945 from the New England Institute of Anatomy and Embalming, Boston, and formerly was associated with the R. and E.F. Gleason Co. of Dorchester, Massachusetts, and Dillingham & Son, Auburn.

MacKinnon Bill to raise pay of teachers — Passage of the MacKinnon bill, supported by the Maine Congress of Parents and Teachers and the Maine Teachers Association during hearings in Augusta, resulted in an increase of about one-third in state school funds received by Presque Isle, but the increase did not entirely meet the cost of higher teacher salaries which followed raising the minimum to $1,500 per year.

Air Scouts elected Dale Morris as squadron pilot — Seven boys were registered as Air Scouts and Dale Morris was elected squadron pilot of the newly formed Presque Isle squadron at the first meeting at the American Legion Home.

Sidney Cook elected president of athletic group — Sidney Cook was elected president of the newly organized Presque Isle Athletic Association at a meeting of the directors. Other officers named were vice president, Gustave Johnson; secretary, Wilfred Trafton; treasurer, Robert Andrews.

Edwin Smith elected to head Presque Isle Fish-Game Group  — Officers were elected, drew up bylaws and nominated a board of directors, when more than 50 sportsmen met at the Mooseleuk Club rooms to organize a new Presque Isle fish and game club.

New “Y” Secretary in Northern Maine — State YMCA Secretary Chester A. Baker announced that Morrill Walker Paine of Troy, New York, accepted the position of associate secretary of the State YMCA to be in charge of the Northeast District YMCA, which included all of Aroostook County and the northern parts of Penobscot and Washington counties.

Pritham named Presque Isle Water and Sewer Districts superintendent — Carroll D. Pritham, of Presque Isle, began his new duties as superintendent of the Presque Isle Water and Sewer Districts. Mr. Pritham gave his notice as electrical engineer with the Maine Public Service Co.
