Dr. Anna Vinton, UMPI assistant professor of ecosystem sustainability, has received a $5,000 Maine Sea Grant to collaborate with state and nonprofit partners in developing a new qualitative tool that will help identify the best combinations of salmon populations for restocking the Kennebec River.
“We were looking for other opportunities where we could bring what we offer into those communities and make a difference and make an impact.”

The University of Maine at Presque Isle and Wintergreen Arts Center are teaming up to present another round of Empty Bowls — a fundraiser that offers up hand-crafted ceramic bowls and soup to fight hunger on a local scale — and are asking people to bring their love of art and their appetite.
It’s the northernmost after-hours veterinary clinic in the state, meeting a significant need in a rural region that has long faced a shortage of veterinarians.
