Ark Animal Sanctuary

A little while ago we were asked to help with a baby squirrel. This tiny little creature was only about 2 weeks old.

Though we know nothing about squirrels we stepped up to the plate to help this tiny little one get to where he needed to go. We went online and did a little research on what to feed and how much to feed and a few other things. It was determined that it was a little boy and he was all feet.

Ark Animal Sanctuary

A few weeks back we were asked to help with a small injured kitten. She was only about 12 weeks old and was in desperate need of medical attention. She was immediately rushed to the vet where they stayed late to treat her. At the vet there were no visible injuries to our little girl on the exterior other than the fact we could tell she was in pain. X rays were taken which revealed she had some fluid on her lungs, three broken ribs and a broken femur. She was given an injectable pain med and made comfortable for the night. Surgery would have to wait until the fluid on her lungs was gone.

Pet Talk

The Houlton Humane Society has a long history, going back over 60 years when a small group of local citizens gathered together in someone’s living room and decided they wanted to save the lost and homeless animals of the greater Houlton area.

These were ordinary people, some housewives, some professionals, some of meager means, some with a little more ability to offer financial support. They sat down and drafted a set of by-laws, found a family with a barn that was willing to be the “home” for the animals that were lost until the owners came to find them or new homes were found, and thus it began.
