The “Christmas Town” name comes from an old nickname that Van Buren had in the 1950s at its economic height when its downtown streets were lined with unique shops.

Lights and Ladders gift donations will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Presque Isle Walmart parking lot.
The matchup takes place at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13 at Bastions Tavern in downtown Houlton.
This year’s event raised more than $113,500 to purchase medical equipment for the hospital and local nonprofit clinics.
Funds from the festival in Presque Isle, which raised $190,000 last year, help the clinic offer low-cost services to more than 3,000 children from all over Aroostook County.
WHOU’s Chris Putnam, will read the letters to Santa on the air at 5 p.m. every Wednesday and Friday, starting on Dec. 6.
Mild temperatures and little snow last year made the Caribou speedway track too muddy to use so organizers moved racing to the Aroostook Centre Mall parking area, creating a track in 36 hours with 400 truckloads of snow.
