First in the nation, Caribou VA clinic turns 25

While the well-attended celebration on Nov. 29 honored the Veterans Administration Community Based Outpatient Clinic’s (CBOC) successful 25 years at the Cary Medical Center Campus, Cary Medical Center Chief Executive Officer Kris Doody was quick to acknowledge that the clinic’s history predates the 25-year anniversary.

Caribou event remembers POW/MIA vets

“You are not forgotten.”  That was the theme for the ceremony honoring National POW/MIA Recognition Day at the Veterans’ Cemetery in Caribou on Sept. 21. The day of remembrance is observed the third Friday in September each year.

POW/MIA Ceremony is Sept. 21

Officials with the Northern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery in Caribou will be hosting a special ceremony on Friday, Sept. 21 to honor those who were prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action; POW/MIA Day is always held on the third Friday of September.

During a special ceremony in Caribou on June 25, Phil Bosse, Senator Susan Collins’ state office representative in Aroostook County, presented a message from the Senator recognizing the 25th anniversary of the ribbon cutting for the nation’s first Veterans’ Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) at Cary Medical Center.

Good news to report for our veterans

Two announcements recently made are very good news for Maine’s veterans. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced a major hiring initiative and the White House clarified that automatic budget cuts will not impact VA services.
