UMPI carpenter goes a step farther in preserving work by famed sculptor

When the University of Maine at Presque Isle went through a six-month project to preserve its four-ton, 30-foot-tall sculpture, “Owls,” by renowned Maine artist Bernard Langlais, officials didn’t realize it would result in two separate pieces that will allow people to appreciate and enjoy Langlais’ work for generations to come.

Cardboard boat regatta planned

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host its second annual Cardboard Boat Regatta on Saturday, April 20 at 4 p.m. in the Gentile Hall pool area, and this year community members are invited to join UMPI students, faculty and staff in competing for first place and bragging rights.

University to host mining forum

The University of Maine at Presque Isle will present a public forum, “Mineral Deposits, Mining, Mine Water Treatment and Environmental Concerns,” from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 23, in the Campus Center. This event is free and open to the public.

UMPI receives diversity grant for science learning

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is partnering with the Aroostook Band of Micmacs’ Boys and Girls Club of America and the Francis Malcolm Science Center to provide several science exploration activities this spring specifically designed for local Native American students in elementary, middle school and high school.

Fit and Fun Day returns to UMPI campus

Getting exercise while having fun? That’s the goal of the 17th semi-annual Fit and Fun Day, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 in the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Gentile Hall.
