Writer offers book signing
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Young people interested in the comic book genre will have an opportunity Saturday, July 9, 2016 to participate in a bit of creative coloring with local writer Ryan Tyler Palmer.
Ryan Tyler Palmer will be at the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library in Presque Isle Saturday at 10 a.m. for a book signing. He will read from his novel “Age of Armageddon: The Spirit of Krynn,” followed by a question-and-answer session.
Youngsters will have a special role to play as the writer has also designed a coloring activity featuring black-and-white drawings from actual comic series.
He wanted to offer something for children — he has two boys of his own — that would perhaps inspire them to explore their own creativity. He will have professionally drawn comic-book images Saturday so kids can see what it’s like to add color to inked characters and scenes.
Formerly of Presque Isle and now living in Caribou, Palmer self-published the book in 2013. “I would say it is a post-apocalyptic sci-fi fantasy that has undertones of horror. It’s a mix of genres because it’s all things I like,” he recently told The Star-Herald.
He said, “This character-driven story is my way of expressing myself. It was written to engage the reader’s imagination in a way I wanted it to. … It’s everything I love about fantasy done from the heart.”
Besides his work as a novelist, Palmer also works for Cornerstone Creative Studios, through which he collaborates online with other writers and artists to create a number of comic/fantasy story series.
