SHERMAN, Maine — Police arrested a Minot man, who was reportedly driving under the influence, Thursday evening after he led them on a high-speed chase on Interstate 95 at speeds well over 100 miles per hour.

Nathan Love, 24, was traveling north on I-95 near Sherman in a 2005 Chrysler Sebring around 7 p.m. when Trooper Tim Saucier clocked him at 115 mph, according to Cpl. Chuck Michaud of Maine State Police Troop F.

Trooper Saucier activated his police lights and siren and began to pursue the vehicle. The trooper eventually caught up with the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop, Cpl. Michaud stated in a press release.

Trooper Saucier continued to follow the vehicle on I-95, at speeds well over 100 mph, until the vehicle exited the interstate at Island Falls.

Love turned onto Route 159 and traveled a short distance before losing control of his vehicle on a sharp turn, police said. Once the vehicle crashed, Trooper Saucier removed the driver and passenger from the vehicle and arrested them both.

Love was charged with criminal speed, failure to stop for a law enforcement officer, operating without a license, and operating under the influence.

The passenger, 25-year-old Nathaniel Bourget of Millinocket, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear on an assault charge and also charged with violating conditions of his release.

Neither the operator nor his passenger were injured in the crash, and officers took both to the Aroostook County Jail. The vehicle was damaged in the crash and was towed from the scene.

Aroostook County Sheriff’s deputies and fire personnel assisted at the crash scene.
