CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou JV girls’ basketball team heads into the new year with a 3-4 record following a recent stretch that included two wins and a loss.
The latest game, played Monday, Dec. 31, featured an exciting ending. Caribou sophomore Sage Dubay tied the game on a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left before teammate Maddy Zeigler stole the ball and fed Gabbie Sutherland, who was fouled with no time left. Her free throw made it 51-50 in favor of the Vikings over the visiting Foxcroft Academy Ponies.
Zeigler, Sutherland and Mia Theriault all reached double figures in points.
On Dec. 27 and 28, the team journeyed to Hancock County for games against Mount Desert Island and Ellsworth. In the first game against MDI, Caribou dropped a 49-33 decision. Sutherland scored 11 points and Zeigler had eight in the loss.
The following day, Caribou coach Marc Weeks said his squad came out with an aggressive edge, leading to a 46-38 victory. The team raced out to a 22-point lead in the third quarter. Theriault provided excellent defense and 11 of the team’s 13 players scored at least a point.
