Wind topples tractor trailer in Monticello

MONTICELLO, Maine — The Maine State Police responded Thursday afternoon to a tractor trailer rollover on U.S. Route 1 on the northern border of Monticello.

Sgt. Chad Fuller of the Maine State Police Troop F Division said that Beverly Severence, 61, of Howland was traveling north at about 3:30 p.m. in a 2018 Freightliner owned by Prime Inc. when the accident happened.

Severance traveled through a section of road that had severe cross winds causing the empty truck and trailer to tip over onto its side. A U.S. Border Patrol agent helped Severence out of the truck.

Monticello firefighters assisted with traffic control and partial closure of Route 1. Severence suffered minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. Speed was not a factor and the driver was wearing a seat belt.

Traffic was reduced to one lane while a crew worked to right the rig. Extremely high winds that hit Aroostook County for much of the day, forced numerous road closures from Bridgewater to Caribou and Fort Fairfield.
