PRESQUE ISLE – Janice Proulx, 66, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility. She was born April 2, 1940 in Houlton, the daughter of Wilford and Eleanor (Clarke) Doescher.
Janice grew up in Houlton and was a graduate of Houlton High School and also attended the University of New Hampshire. Janice and her husband Robert owned and operated the Northern Lights Motel for fifteen years, and she also worked as a manager for H&R Block for ten years. In her spare time she loved to garden and was a member of the Presque Isle Garden Club. She often traveled and enjoyed trips to places such as Iceland, Greece, and Turkey as well as many areas in the U.S.. Janice was a member of the Presque Isle Congregational Church and served as its treasurer for sixteen years. Janice was also a lifelong learner who enjoyed taking classes to further educate herself.
She is survived by a daughter Jane Bennett and her husband Daniel of Lincolnville, a son Geoffery Proulx and his partner Dominic Albo of New York City, NY, a grandson Nicholas Bennett, a brother Frederick Doescher and his wife Virginia of Houlton, a sister Lois Atkins and her husband Marvin of St. Petersburg, Fl. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a sister Marrietta Maxey.
There was no visitation. A memorial service was conducted 11 A.M. Saturday at the Presque Isle Congregational Church with the Rev. Dr. Robert Grove-Markwood officiating. A time of refreshments was provided after the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make donations in Janice’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
