UMPI makes it five of nine

UMPI won its fifth Dunc Beaton Cup with a 5 – 0 win at the Forum on March 7. Just barely 39 seconds into the game UMPI defenseman Andrew Steward beat TAMC goalie Carl Morneau. Darcy Lennon scored his first of three goals at 10:21 in the first period, giving UMPI a 2 – 0 lead.

Although UMPI continued bombarding Morneau they couldn’t score until 2:20 was left in the second when Lennon scored his second goal followed with 1:50 left when Captain Jared Griffith scored giving UMPI a 4 – 0 lead at the end of two.
Thanks to solid defense and great back checking by UMPI, TAMC was unable to score. A minute and a half into the third period Darcy Lennon closed out the scoring with his third goal for UMPIs 5 – 0 win. For TAMC, Carl Morneau in the nets was spectacular making 35 saves, many in he unbelievable category.
TAMC eliminated NMCC 9 – 0 on March 5. There were two games on March 6. In the first game UMPI eliminated State Farm in a very close game 4 – 2. The second game between Exquisit Homes and TAMC was a barnburner with TAMC holding on to win 3 – 2, thereby eliminating Exquisit Homes, last year’s Dunc Beaton Cup winner. Tim Belden, playing great defense, scored two goals for TAMC.
It was another great year for the Presque Isle Gentlemens Hocky League with Monday and Wednesday nights at the Forum providing many exciting hockey games.
