Athlete of the Week
The Varsity Club and Big Cheese Pizza are pleased to congratulate track and field team members Evan Richards and Amber Griffin for being selected as athletes of the week for the week of May 14-19.
    Both Richards and Griffin have qualified for the PVC and State track and field meets in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. Griffin will also compete in the high jump at these meets.
Student-athletes chosen as athletes of the week receive a 1-item large pizza courtesy of Big Cheese Pizza.
Indoor pool swimming classes
The Presque Isle Indoor pool is offering prepaid registration now. Those interested should register immediately. The summer session will start June 18 and end August 11.
Parent Toddler and infant classes are Tuesdays at 9 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. or Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Three-year-old classes are Mondays at 4:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m., Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m., and Thursdays at 9 a.m. or 6 p.m.
Four to five-year-old non-swimming classes are Mondays at 4:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m., Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. or 6 p.m., Wednesdays at 4 p.m. or 6 p.m., Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. and Fridays at 10 a.m.
Swimming three to five-year-old classes for those who able to swim 10 yards without assistance are Mondays at 6:30 p.m., Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m., Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., Thursdays at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and Fridays at 10:30 a.m.
Learn to swim I is for those unable to swim 15 yards without assistance and are 6-years-old or older. These classes are Mondays at 9 a.m., Wednesdays at 4 p.m. or 6 p.m. and Thursdays at 11 a.m. Learn to swim II-III is for those able to swim 15 yards without assistance. These classes are Mondays at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 4 p.m. or 6 p.m.; Tuesdays at 11 a.m. or 4 p.m.; Thursdays at 11 a.m.; and Fridays at 10 a.m.     Level V-VI classes are Mondays at 10 a.m. or 7 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 a.m.; and Thursdays at 6 p.m.
Adult lessons are Thursdays at 7 p.m. The pool also offers several water exercise classes. On Mondays and Fridays, the water exercise classes are at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Evening water exercise classes are Mondays and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. Water running classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m.

ANWFR  Fishing Derby
The opportunity to enjoy recreational fishing is a right to all Americans. Fishing is a healthy and wholesome activity that can be enjoyed by all.     When used and managed carefully, fisheries resources are a perpetual gift from past generations that we can enjoy today and preserve for our children to enjoy tomorrow.
Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge is hosting its fourth Annual Children’s Fishing Derby for children under the age of 16 on Saturday, June 9. The derby will be held at Delima Pond which is north of the refuge office off of Refuge Road. Activities begin with official registration from 8-9 a.m. and the fishing derby begins at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for the top three total fish weights. Participants must be accompanied by an adult or guardian while fishing. The derby will be held rain or shine. Be prepared for all weather conditions and biting insects.
The fishing derby promises to offer fun and fresh air for all. Hotdogs, beverages, and chips will be served. Each participant should bring his or her own fishing pole and tackle.

Benefit Mike Chasse
A benefit auction will be held for the Chasse family on Friday, June 1 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Chapman Street in Presque Isle. Mike Chasse, son of Tom and Rhonda Chasse, was involved in a serious skiing accident on March 1 in Utah. The accident left Mike with a spinal cord injury. The proceeds from the auction will be used to purchase adaptive equipment in anticipation of Mike’s return home at the end of June.
“[We] appreciate the care that the community has shown during this difficult time,” stated the Chasse family. “Because of the type of people that live in our county, we know the auction will be a huge success.”
American Legion tryouts
The American Legion baseball Patriots/Aroostook County team will be holding its tryouts on Sunday, June 3 at the Presque Isle High School. Players born on or after January 1, 1988 are eligible. Athletes must have a copy of their birth certificates. If there are any questions, call Richard Parsons at 764-7213.
Hooked on Fishing field day
The sixth annual Hooked on Fishing Field Day will be taking place June 2 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Mantle Lake Park. Prizes will be given to the young fisherman who catches the first trout, greatest total length of fish and largest trout caught. There will be free food and drinks for all who attend.
