PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Presque Isle High School has announced its plans to produce “Fiddler on the Roof” as the school’s fall musical production. The musical tells the story of Tevye, a dairyman in search of appropriate husbands for his three eldest daughters. In a break of tradition, his daughters refuse to accept the wishes of the matchmaker, Yente, and their father. Instead, they marry men whom they love. The musical opened in New York in 1964 and enjoyed several Broadway revivals, most recently in 2004. That production featured Tony-award nominated John Cariani, a 1987 graduate of Presque Isle High School.
Tamia Glidden returns to the Shipmates’ Playhouse again this season to direct the production. Jay Nelson also returns and will provide musical direction. Kyle Green will again be part of the production team as an assistant director in charge of the show’s instrumental music. Joe Zubrick rounds out the team as the show’s set director.
Auditions for “Fiddler on the Roof” are open to all current Presque Isle High School students and will be held the week of Aug. 20. Students may pick up audition materials and rehearsal schedules as early as Aug. 14 in the main office at PIHS. The production will have a two-weekend run – Nov. 8-10 and Nov. 15-17. Ticket sales will begin Oct. 25.
