Men’s League Double Softball Tournament

The Division 1 Men’s League Double Elimination Softball Tournament took place Aug. 4 and 5 in Presque Isle and Caribou. The tournament consisted of the nine teams in the league — three teams from Presque Isle (Buck Construction, Foremost Springs and GFP), five from Caribou (Enman Riverside Disc Golf, Integry’s Energy, County Electric, Chester M. Kearney and Job Corps) and a single team from Ft. Kent, Bee Jay’s.     The championship game came down to Bee Jays and Integry’s Energy. With Bee Jays taking the title by scoring three times in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 16-15 victory.
Integry’s Energy jumped out to the lead in the first inning. Chris Michaud and Clinton St.Peter both reached base with hits before Jason House hit a three-run home run.
Integry’s Energy kept the lead through two innings before Bee Jays had their turn in the bottom of the third with Tom Desjardins hitting a two-run homer and Tom Desjardins, Tim Desjardins, Tracey Hartt, Jeremy Desjardins, Phil Labbe, J.R. Albair and Eric Berube also scoring to go on top, 10-4.
Fighting back, Integry’s Energy put up three more runs in the fourth inning. Shannon Kidney had a two-run homer and Chris Saucier scored Sam Michaud with a two-out single.
Bee Jays answered in its half as Tom Desjardins doubled to plate Steve Perreault and Troy Guerrette.
In the fifth inning, Integry’s Energy put up three more runs, thanks to a Sam Michaud home run, and in the seventh rallied to go on top of Bee Jays by scoring four times.
Matt Bouchard led off the inning with an infield single and House hit a two-run homerun with one out. Michaud and Saucier both reached base ahead of Philip St. Peter, who knocked them both in with a single.
However, Bee Jays battled back with Jeremy Desjardins walking to begin the bottom of the seventh inning. Labbe singled to move Jeremy Desjardins over to third and Albair walked to load the bases. Berube then doubled to score Jeremy Desjardins and Labbe to tie the game. John Lozier reached base to load the bases again for John Michaud who then hit a fly ball to left field to score Albair for the winning run and give Bee Jays the tourney title.
Integry’s got into the finals by virtue of a 15-8 victory over Enman Riverside. Buck Construction took fourth place, losing a slugfest to Enman Riverside, 25-22.
