Skating coaches receive instruction

Figure skating coaches from the Skating Club of Maine-Northern Region attended a United States Figure Skating Coaching Seminar recently.

Professional instructors from across the United States, as well as Colorado-based staff from the United States Figure Skating Association were in Augusta to teach coaches within the state of Maine.
The day consisted of both on-ice and off-ice classes. The Northern Region coaching staff learned fundamentals on how to properly teach at the Basic Skills level, which consists of skaters who are just beginning.
New ideas, proper management and keys to being an effective coach were among the items discussed. The seminar was beneficial and the coaches are looking forward to implementing the ideas.
Those attending the seminar from the Northern Region were Haley Kelley, Emily Greaves, Katie Smith, Devin Craig, Jessica Scott and Shayna da Cruz.
