Ricker Rumblings
By Lois Downing
Good morning everyone. Windy here but it is a beautiful fall day. With the leaves turning colors, reds, golds, browns and all, who could ask for anything more.
One couple is moving from here. No more to report on that.
Tom and Rita Kronenberg of Middletown, CT were callers on their cousin, Lois Downing, on Thursday. Tom and Rita have property in Topsfield and one of the things they do is travel to Mibridge where they purchase items for their Christmas business, a tree farm. It was great to see them on their annual trip.
Halloween time again. Some of the houses are decorated. For those who like the custom, you should ride around town and see the decorations. They’re great!
Harvest time is still going on but some farmers have finished. We’ve had some carrots and potatoes given to us from the current crop.
You should see my African violet! I always heard they were hard to care for—but mine is doing great; it has just the right amount of sun and shade.
Was sorry to learn of the death of Tom Fitzpatrick. Tom belonged to our parish, St. Mary of the Visitation, and was very active in church life. He usually had a joke or two and was a great talker. He will be missed in the community, especially by his friends. Our sympathy goes to the family. A few years ago, he and his wife Margaret were bringing Sunday dinner into shut-in Vashti Clement, all carefully packed in a basket.
My neighbor, Pauline Megquier, is presently visiting her daughters out of town. Pauline hasn’t been able to do that in a long time, so I’m sure she and her family will have a super time.
The correct address for Dot Armstrong is 777 Stevens Ave., Apt. 507, Portland, ME 04103. I’m told that Dot is in rehab now but will get this mail through her son.
Those who attended the RSVP friendly visitor training in Oakfield at the snowmobile clubhouse last Tuesday agreed it was a fun time. Each person entering the clubhouse was given a pebble. The pebbles went around the table, when one reached you from the right, it was your turn to tell something about yourself. Nobody hesitated to use the microphone, so there was a lot of information given about a person. Good time! Gini Barrett, new representative, was there and headed the meeting in her capacity as a leader, very well. Good job, Gini.
The Aroostook Agency on Aging invites you to learn more about your agency and the work they do to help older adults. The mailing includes a benefits checklist and some people will be surprised that they may be qualified for a program that will put significant money back in their pocket. You may attend a meeting to learn about this at the Houlton Regional Hospital Education Center, Wednesday, October 31, from 1-3 p.m.
Alfred McCluskey, worker at the local hospital, was seen wearing a Yankee shirt the other day. Now, Al, I thought you were a Red Sox fan!
The recent collection of money by the friends of Collen Tardie at Ricker will be used for his flower garden in his memory, as told by his daughter, C.J. Stewart. Rest in peace, Collen.
My thought for the day is: “See, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me, to repay everyone according to the deeds he has done. “ (Revelation 22:12)
That’s it for today, folks. Enjoy the great fall days.
