Wrap it up for the animals, that’s what they’re saying these days at Town and Country Clothing and Footwear in Market Square. Last year the folks at Town and Country raised over $750 in donations from customers who appreciated their free wrapping service and dropped a donation in the canister for the animal shelter.  This year they are starting early, knowing that many people shop for gifts even before the holidays, birthday gifts, anniversary gifts, “just because I love you” gifts, and so the challenge is on, to raise more money, and make more people aware of the needs of the animal shelter.
We appreciate this effort, and those of you who shop there and have always appreciated the free gift-wrapping service, can kill two birds with one stone.  Have someone else do the dreaded wrapping, and give just a little to help support all the programs at the animal shelter at the same time.
If there are any other businesses that would like to join into this program, please contact me at 532-2345 so we can be sure to have donation canisters made up for you, and posters.
There is so much going on right now, the next and most exciting event of the year is the dinner/dance being held at the Oakfield Community Center, October 27, 2007. The meal, a delicious potluck, will be held at 6 pm with live music and dancing starting at 7:30.  Travis James Humphrey is our headliner and lead vocalist, backed up by his dad and local favorite, Tim the Tune Man Humphrey.  On drums will be David Loendorf.
This evening is the best bargain you’ll encounter all year long. Just $10 for tickets for the evening! You can’t go out to eat for $10  per person, let alone enjoy an entire evening of live professional and extremely fun entertainment. Tickets are available at the door only, children under 12 are just $5 so bring the whole family. This is good down home fun and if you have never heard Travis perform, you must come. He is just exceptionally talented, creative, and has a great sound. If you love country, you’ll love Travis, if you love the blues, you’ll love Travis, if you’re into opera, you’ll love Travis – okay, so now I’m stretching it a bit, Travis doesn’t sing opera – but my point is, if you love music at all, this is your night to get out and shake off the cobwebs.
Speaking of cobwebs, since this dance is so close to Halloween, we challenge you to come in costume. There will be prizes for the best costume. We will also have an auction, perhaps a 50/50 raffle, but most important, we’ll have time to sit and visit with old friends, family, have a good time and in the process, support the Shelter’s programs.
And let’s not forget what we’re all about – this is for the animals – to help us care for them until new homes are found – and if you are looking for an animal to adopt we have several beautiful dogs waiting for new homes, and over 100 cats. Lots of kittens, so if you are a person who would prefer a kitten to an adult, look no further, we have them, over 44 gorgeous kittens . Gray double pawed kittens, little orange and white kittens, calico kittens, tiger kittens, black kittens, black and white kittens, we have kittens coming out of our ears!  Well, again, I’m stretching it a bit, but you get the picture.
Thank you to all of you who bring out food, blankets, laundry detergent, toys and treats! We really appreciate all of you.
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, we have several openings available, from kennel work to front desk receptionist, someone to paint some shelves, someone to start repairing the floors in the old building, we need clean fill and someone to do some grading and we need our driveway black topped. So keep us in mind if you can fill any of these needs.
Have a great week and remember, please spay and neuter your pets.
