Seeking support on Nov. 6

To the editor:
On Nov. 6, residents of SAD 29 will be asked to vote on the allocation of funds to assist in the completion of critical and necessary renovations to Houlton High School, and to create new building space to be used as a Visual and Performing Arts Center for the community.     As co-chairs of the Houlton Community Arts Center Fundraising Committee and parents to children who are all actively involved in arts programming, we believe that this project is the most important thing we can do for our town. We will all benefit from greater space for youth and adult programming and more opportunities for music, dance, theatre and other presentations.
The Center will assist in improving the quality of life for Aroostook County and will serve as an economic stimulus in the area by promoting cultural tourism and encouraging greater entrepreneurial activity. Lastly, the new Arts Center will eliminate overcrowding and will provide much needed space for our students to develop and hone their creative arts abilities.
To hear more about this exciting project, please attend a public hearing hosted by the School Board at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 18th in the Houlton High School Auditorium.
Please join us in supporting the arts — it’s a vision for our entire community.
