HOULTON — The Houlton Rotary Club was pleased to have as their guest speaker on Nov. 5 Nate Berry, brought to the club by Craig Bean.
Berry presented information to club members on Momentum Aroostook. Momentum Aroostook is a group of highly motivated Aroostook County young people between the ages of 20 and 40 who meet for connection for career, social and community betterment. They are promoting Aroostook County and strive to lower the out-migration that we have been experiencing.
The goals of Momentum are to enjoy each other’s company and the region; to form a network of support among young residents and urge those poised to leave or return to the County to realize opportunity here; to enact change and/or support initiatives that enhance our region; to exemplify and promote a positive image of the region; and to help make the County a more attractive place for young people to live, work, and play.
They do not want to reinvent the wheel, Berry said, but to work along side other local organizations that are also working towards similar goals. Some of the exciting activities they have enjoyed together are: pumpkin ride and picnic in Mapleton at Chad and Roxie Putnam’s farm, a kayak trip on Arnold Brook Lake led by Aroostook Kayak & Canoe Sales, and also time with family and friends at the Wintergreen Arts Center, a non-profit organization located in the Aroostook Centre Mall in Presque Isle.
They look forward to meeting new members and embracing many new ideas and enjoy the County together. Currently the membership is up over 60 with the hopes of reaching 100 by the end of 2007. Membership is free, informal and hopefully beneficial to all.
