HOULTON – Despite recent resignations, both the Houlton Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals are at full capacity.
The town council accepted the resignation of Jeff Alling as a member of the Houlton Planning Board, and passed the motion 6-0. Town Manager Doug Hazlett and councilors thanked Alling for his service on the board. Don Keiser has filled Alling’s position and has been elected as the new chairman.
The council also appointed Donald Collins as a member of the Houlton Planning Board, passing the motion unanimously.
“This would round out the empty seats,” explained Hazlett, “This gives us a whole complement of people on the planning board.”
Lastly, the council appointed Carl Lord, Jr. as a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, unanimously passing the motion.
“The position was advertised, and the only name that came forward was Carl’s,” explained Hazlett, “We appreciate volunteerism.”
Councilors also thanked Lord for his volunteerism and involvement.
“It’s tough to volunteer your services for free and get into controversial, time consuming duties,” Hazlett explained.
The next Houlton Planning Board meeting will be on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers. The Zoning Board of Appeals meets as needed.
