Well it has been awhile since we have met, due to holidays and snow days.
We met on Jan. 7, and it was nice to see everyone again! It was our first meeting in January so we sang “Happy Birthday” to all members that have a birthday this month.
Our guest speaker was our District Governor Terry Lenihan. The board had a meeting with the District Governor at 11 a.m. Terry has a large area to cover; as District Governor, he has 40 clubs that he is overseeing so it was wonderful to have him as our guest. He encouraged us all to challenge ourselves to get involved and have fun! He said to pick a project; have fun; keep involved; and, most importantly, give your time and energy. We will then help both our community and the world.
Terry encouraged us to stay involved in Literacy programs, this is an area that he feels strongly about as does our club. He mentioned that if we went online to: www.rotary.com that we could read the newsletter and get many ideas including several good fundraising ideas and what has worked well for other clubs. This newsletter is available to both members and non-members.
He also discussed the district conference that is taking place in Bathers, New Brunswick on June 6, 7, and 8. It sounded like it will be a fun and informative time.
He told us to keep up the good work and that he enjoys visiting clubs such as ours that are active and lively. He reviewed some of the recent projects that our club has assisted with and he is correct we have been busy. So a thank you goes out to all our members for your hard work and dedication to our community and beyond.
We presented Terry with the Rotary book and pen and thanked him for taking time to visit us.
If the weather cooperates we will be meeting again on Monday, Jan. 14 at noon.
