VAN BUREN – Ruth Jo Kenney Padgett, 94, passed away Jan. 25, 2008, at a Van Buren health care facility. She was born in Martins Ferry, Ohio, Sept. 24, 1913, the daughter of Enoch Thomas and Mary Josephine (Stanford) Harris. She was married to John Kenney, Jr. for 40 years until his death in 1975 and later married Austin Van Buren Padgett until his death in 1999. She lived in the Deland, Florida area for 36 years, until her recent move to Van Buren. Ruth was a member of the Deltona Methodist Church was an avid bridge player her whole life. In her earlier years, she was an acrobatic dancer and elementary school teacher.
She is survived by her only child, Jo Ellen Riddle and her fiancé, Rodney Winslow and granddaughter Esther Riddle all of Van Buren; grandson John Matthew Riddle of Eustis, FL, great-grandson, Ethan Smalenback of Deltona, FL, and brother Ray S. Harris of Oklahoma City, OK. She was predeceased by her husbands, John and Austin, a sister, Esther Schlick, and brother, Paul L. Harris.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stockholm, ME. A family graveside service will be held in Deltona at a later date.
