Katahdin’s McNally honorable mention
BANGOR – The Bangor Daily News has chosen its Eastern Maine All-Tournament girls’ teams, with Lee Academy senior Aarika Ritchie (15.6 ppg) getting the nod in Class C for the Most Valuable Player, along with Woodland senior Courtney Cochran (21.3 ppg) in Class D and in Class B, Waterville junior center Morgan Frame, who won her second straight Class B MVP award. Senior guard Kari Anna Pelletier of Oxford Hills was the MVP for the Class A tournament, as well.
The MVP award was established in 1994 in memory of Owen O. Osborne, a former BDN sports editor and reporter. The award and all-tourney teams are selected by a vote of media, tourney officials and representatives of the Maine Principals’ Association.
Joining Ritchie on the All-Tournament Class C team were teammates Karin Bird and Amanda Gifford, along with Houlton’s Rachel Foster and George Stevens Academy’s Maddie Park.
For Houlton, 6-1 senior center Foster, a two-time All-tourney winner, carried her team offensively by hitting a double-double (18.6 ppg) in all three tournament games, including firing in 23 points and hauling down 21 rebounds against Lee in the final.
Earning Honorable Mention were Marissa Albert of Fort Kent; Brooke Harris and Dana Houghton of Lee Academy and Kayla Wood of Washington Academy.
Rounding out the Class D All-Tourney team with Cochran were Mindy Chasse and Whitney Flint of Ashland; Rachel Torrey of Woodland and Sarah Long of Central Aroostook.
