HOULTON — Houlton’s police department is filled with a wealth of experience and knowledge to offer the community. The protection of the town’s people rests on the ability of its officers and according to Police Chief Butch Asselin, the department’s efforts to fill that need is ongoing.
Image     With that in mind, the HPD has just recruited Patrol Officer Adam Lewis as its newest member.
Lewis is an 11-year veteran of law enforcement.  He began his career at the Old Orchard Beach Police Department when he was 20.  He was employed there a year before beginning work with the Sagadahoc County Sheriffs Office in Bath.  In 1998 he went to the Topsham Police Department before returning to the Sagadahoc County Sheriffs Office for two years.  He returned to the Topsham Police Department in 2002 and was promoted to patrol sergeant until 2006 when he took a position with the State Department to go overseas and train the Afghanistan police force.
“When I returned in December of 2007, I wanted to continue my career in law enforcement in the state of Maine and I felt that Houlton was the perfect place for what I was looking for,” explained Lewis. “I thank Chief Butch Asselin for giving me this opportunity and I look forward to serving the town and citizens of Houlton for the future to come.”
Lewis brings with him an extensive training record, which includes instruction, techniques, drug interdiction, management, and many other aspects of law enforcement. He lived in California and Massachusetts before moving to Maine when he was 12 years old.  He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1993 and then attended Southern Maine Community College in South Portland, with a major in law enforcement.
Lewis is filling a position that has been vacant for some time. The HPD force has not been at full staff for a while and the department’s new chief has been looking to fill those vacancies since coming to the area last year.
“Adam brings a wealth of experience and training to the Houlton Police Department,” remarked Chief Asselin. “I am pleased that Adam selected the Houlton Police Department over other agencies in which to work in.”
Lewis moved to the area with his wife Andrea and his three sons, Justin, Addison and Mitchell.
