NOVE MESTO, Czech Republic – Less than two days after the long trek from Ostersund, Sweden, Laura Spector and Russell Currier, of the Maine Winter Sport Center, placed 15th and 17th in the junior women’s and men’s individual biathlon races.

Finishing strong in the month of January with the Junior World Championships, both Spector and Currier raced in the mixed relay and individual race at the Senior World Championships last week.
Currier missed two targets in each of his first two stages before cleaning his third shooting, but two more misses in the final shooting kept Currier out of the top 10.
Currier displayed his fast form on the tracks finishing with the third fastest ski split on the day. Spector too recorded the third fastest ski split on the day. Missing only one shot in her first two stages, Spector hovered inside the top 10. However, she missed four of her last 10, which bumped her down to 15th by the end of the race.
Another MWSC biathlete made her international debut in the Junior women’s race. Hilary McNamee, still a competitor in the youth category (ages 17 to 18), competed for the first time with the older age group. McNamee started with one miss in her first prone station keeping close to Spector, but over the next two stages McNamee suffered five misses before fighting back to clean her final stage and place 26th.
