LIBRARIAN HONORED – Deputy Council Chair Ed Nickerson presents a gift and certificate to Sonja Plummer-Morgan, librarian, for her continued efforts to promote the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library. By seeking grants and other funding, Plummer-Morgan has been able to obtain much-needed materials and equipment for the library, as user figures continue to go up. The library will be celebrating its 100th anniversary serving the reading needs of local citizens on March 16 and welcomes the public to join staff to mark the occasion.

During the session on Monday, Feb. 20, councilors honored Plummer-Morgan for her continued work in promoting the library and her efforts to expand its offerings, with Council Deputy Chair Ed Nickerson presenting the librarian with an award for her efforts.
“She has been an exceptional achiever and employee for the city of Presque Isle,” said Nickerson.
Council Chairman Walt Elish noted some of Plummer-Morgan’s accomplishments and continued strategies for making the library more involved in the community.
“You’re trying to get grants for computers. You’re increasing the use of the library – always looking to get more for the library,” said Elish. “Thanks for a job well done.”
Plummer-Morgan said she’s been able to do what she has so far because she’s been allowed to explore options for the library.
“I’ve been given enough room to create and take risks. As a librarian, that’s very important and adds value to my job,” said Plummer-Morgan. “I appreciate this recognition.”
Elish spoke for the Council in acknowledging what Plummer-Morgan brings to her position at the library.
“We appreciate your efforts,” said Elish.
During the Council’s March 3 session, the library received yet another honor as it prepares to celebrate a major milestone. Elish proclaimed, on behalf of the Council, the library would celebrate its 100th year serving the public on March 16 of this year.
“We’ll be having an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with light refreshments,” said Plummer-Morgan. “The public is welcome. Come check us out – and perhaps a book too.”
