CHOSEN — Chosen to represent Southern Aroostook Community School at the Maine Leadership Seminar May 15-18 at the University of Southern Maine are, from left: Rebecca Sherwood, alternate; and Alexandra Bishop, ambassador.
Bishop and Sherwood, along with several of their classmates, submitted an essay titled, “What Leadership Means to Me.” Each school district developed its own criteria for the selection process. The staff of the Maine Youth Leadership Seminar recommended that schools consider students who demonstrate leadership skills when choosing their candidates.
There is no cost to the student, her family, or her school for participation in the leadership seminar. Statewide organizations, individual clubs and businesses support the Maine Youth Leadership Seminar. Volunteers staff the seminar.
When talking to Bishop about leadership she said; “Leadership is a way to change and save the world, breaking cycles of pain and having others follow and believe in it. Leading isn’t about choosing a side of right or wrong. With a good sense of understanding and knowledge of things, you can do anything you want.”
