MAPLETON – Irving L. Condon, 80, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2008 with his family at his side following a long illness. He was born in Bristol, Conn. on September 2, 1927, the son of George and Laura (Butler) Condon. He moved to Mapleton with his family when he was an infant and lived there all his life. Irving served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII and was stationed in Japan. He was a farmer for many years and took great pride in raising potatoes and caring for his farm that he loved. When he retired from farming, he worked at McCain Foods in Easton for several years but continued to work with the land raising a large garden every year that gave him much enjoyment. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the American Legion and the Board of Trustees of the Castle Hill Grange, a member of the Mapleton Senior Citizens, Presque Isle Senior Citizens, and Golden Age of Caribou. Irving enjoyed being with people and especially enjoyed meeting for early morning coffee with his friends at Burger King.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Priscilla (McNamara) Condon of Mapleton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Helen Condon of Mapleton, Judy Condon Kennard and her husband Wayne of Mapleton; two sisters, Fern MacDonald of Passadumkeag and Marjorie Kneeland of Olemon; three sisters-in-law, Vella Condon of Wade, Annalise Condon of Topeka, KS and Annie McDonald of Lincoln; a brother-in-law, Thomas McNamara of Lincoln; also many nieces and nephews. Irving was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Herman, George Jr., and Gerald Condon. He will be missed by his two grand-dogs, Bo, who warmed his lap and Bear who warmed his heart by staying by his side during his illness.
There will be no calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
