APPROXIMATELY 450 STUDENTS and community members attended the Job Fair held at Northern Maine Community College March 13. According to Ruth White, organizer of the Job Fair, 59 percent of attendees were NMCC students, while the remaining 41 percent were community members.
“We had about 125 attend last year, so our goal for this year was 200,” said White. “I think we were a lot more successful this year in getting the word out to the surrounding communities that this event was open to the public, and not just intended for our students. Also, the fact that we were having our largest Job Fair ever, with 52 businesses and organizations participating – most of whom are hiring now, coupled with the unfortunate recent lay-offs in the area – really made a difference in this year’s attendance.”
