BPW Careerist named

   Renee C. Guerrette, Caribou Business and Professional Women’s Club Young Careerist for 2008 will represent Aroostook County at the BPW Annual State Convention to be held at the University of Maine Fort Kent, June 6-8.    Guerrette competed for the honor of District IV’s Young Careerist during the District IV Meeting of the Maine BPW on April 5 representing the Caribou Club. Judges for the district were, Katherine Anderson and Pam Wyman of Caribou, and Sheila Burtt of Presque Isle.
   At the district level, contestants competed in four areas: written biographical information, judge’ interview, group interaction, and prepared speeches. Guerrette joins three other County BPW Women with titles: Shawn Cunningham of Presque Isle, Terri Hallowell of Caribou, and Kristie Moir of Woodland, the current State of Maine young careerist, who all have received State of Maine BPW titles.
   “It seems like each year the speech topics get to the root of the issues in America with Equal Rights for women,” said Darlene Grass, BPW president.  Renee’s topic was: “Are We Ready for a Woman President?”
   Guerrette is the program coordinator and certified therapeutic recreational specialist at The Aroostook Medical Center’s Green Ridge Neuro Rehabilitation Center in Fort. Fairfield.  She graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a degree in therapeutic recreation and a minor in health promotions and has AMA certification in communication skills for managers.
   A recipient of TAMC’s Fire Starter Award, Guerrette has scholastic and professional honors. A charter member of the Aroostook County Brain Injury Advocacy Group, she served as the Brain Injury Association of Maine’s Annual Walk-A-Thon Chair for 2008.
   “Renee has distinguished herself throughout her career,” said Kristie Moir, Young Careerist chairperson of Caribou BPW. “Her achievements are reflective of her successes and ambition. Renee’s passion for her work is evidenced by her commitment to providing outstanding treatment to patients with brain injuries.  Having worked over 10 years in the field, Aroostook County is extremely proud to have her in this area.
   Guerrette moved back to the County and resides in hometown of Mapleton with her husband Ryan, and son Chase and daughter Neve.
   “It is an honor to serve as the Young Careerist representing Aroostook County,” said Guerrette. “BPW has supported and celebrated the accomplishments of women for decades.  It is a wonderful organization and I am thrilled to receive this honor.  I believe that the role of young professional women is one that we must support.  In this global economy, careers are competitive and demanding; for a woman it is often a greater challenge.  Business and Professional Women have created a standard of equal rights, equal pay, and equal opportunity for women and I am proud to represent this mission.”
