Presque Isle Youth Hockey’s girls’ team had a successful first year for athletes 10- to 16-years-old. Although some of the players had never skated before and some had played youth hockey for nine years, they had three things in common: to be on the first all-girls hockey team, improve their hockey skill and play as a team.

Only four out of 13 of the players had played youth hockey before, so most of the team had to learn positions on the ice and how to set-up a play. The players put a lot of personal effort in their practices to learn the skills needed to play the game of hockey. Throughout the year, the girls worked hard to improve their individual skills and team skills.
The four youth hockey veterans lead the squad as role models for the novice players, and helped them improve.
The team’s drive to improve carried PI to success in the first end-of-year tournament in Rockport. PI won their first game, and had a Stanley Cup celebration. The team also won the second game, and lost their third game by only one goal. The season record was 2-10.
The Presque Isle Girl’s hockey team has a lot to be proud of during their building year, and a lot to look forward to next year.
